Playing cards can also be used to do readings. There are several systems which could be used to interpret playing cards. Our playing card meanings rely on Thoth-style interpretations. Many of the spreads that were designed to be used with tarot cards can also be used to read with regular playing cards, and with other oracles too.
Madam Lenormand was the famous French clairvoyant who read the fortune of Napoleon. She had a 36-card deck which she used intuitive methods to interpret. Even if her cards may not have been custom painted, a tradition has been based on this myth.
